Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 4: The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education gives current duties to senior teachers for the vacant posts of head teachers in government primary schools. As it is not possible to promote to this post due to litigation, 'ongoing duty' is given.

Currently, it has been decided to promote these teachers step by step. A recommendation in this regard will be sent to the Ministry from the Department of Primary Education (DPE) this month.

It is known from DPE that assistant teachers have been appointed on the basis of seniority in about 18,000 schools across the country in the vacant seats of head teachers. These teachers who are currently in charge will be promoted finally. The field level officials are sending necessary documents along with the gradation list to the teachers. Currently, 25,000 head teacher posts are vacant across the country. Since the post of Headmaster has been upgraded to Class II, the recommendation of PSC will be required for promotion.

In this regard, teachers have filed 515 cases in different districts. In the meantime, some cases have been ruled in favor of the teachers. Again, 800 teachers of 100 upazilas will be promoted in districts where no cases have been filed. A proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education this month to promote them. Other teachers on current duty will be promoted step by step. A decision will be taken after the cases of persons whose cases are pending are disposed of.

DPE officials said that in the country's 65,620 government primary schools, about 18,000 teachers are performing the current duties of head teachers. 26,193 private primary schools have also been nationalized in three phases. In schools where there is no head teacher, assistant teachers have been assigned the current duties.
