4000 km highways will be upgraded to four, six lanes

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, January 10: There are about 22,000 kilometres of roads in the country, of which 4,000 kilometres are highways. These highways will be upgraded to four and six lanes in phases.

The Public Private Partnership (PPP) authority's deal signing under the Hotel Continental Project in the capital was held on Sunday (January 9) morning, where Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department Md. Nazrul Islam said this. He said, "We are working to build Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's 'Sonar Bangla'. All highways will be upgraded to four and six lanes in phases. Work has been started to upgrade the existing four-lane highways to six lanes."

The secretary added, "56 kilometers of flyovers will be constructed across the country. Under this, 13 km four lanes will be built connecting Dhaka and Narayanganj."

The deal signing event was attended by Begum Raushan Ara Mannan MP, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Roads and Bridges, Sultana Afroz, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the PPP Authority, and Md. Abdus Sabur, Chief Engineer, Roads and Highways Department.
