Dhaka, 21 August 2022 : In the last few days, six trawlers have sunk in the Bay of Bengal from Patharghata in Barguna. Of the 107 fishermen from the six trawlers that sank, 75 have been rescued, but 32 remain missing.

At the same time, 25 trawlers and 425 fishes there are also missing. A total of 457 prisoners are missing.

General Secretary of Barguna District Fishery Trawler Owners' Association, referring to the owners of the missing trawler at 6:30 pm on Saturday. Masum Mia confirmed this information. At the same time, the rescued fishermen are being brought to the shore through various local trawlers, he said.

The sunken trawlers are FB Shanu Musalli of Noli village of Barguna Sadar upazila, FB Junayed of the same village, FB Al Mahadi of Nishanbaria village of Sadar upazila, FB Bhai Bhai of Charduani area of ​​Patharghata upazila, FB Monowara of Patharghata Khalifa Hat area and FB Ma of Charduani area.

The missing trawlers are FB Serazul of Patharghata Sadar Union, FB Bhai Bhai of Charduani, FB Shanu, FB Bara Kalam of Noli village of Barguna Sadar Upazila, FB Chhota Kalam, FB Jahangir, FB Mohammad Ali and 25 trawlers including FB Mae Doa of Kakchira Union of Patharghata. It is said that 17 people are in jail in each trawler.

After that, the coastal fishermen took their trawlers to the deep sea to catch fish. When the low pressure started again, as the sea became rough, several trawlers drowned in different upazilas since last Thursday. So far six trawlers have sunk and 25 have been reported missing in different upazilas of Barguna and Mohipur. Data collection process is ongoing. This number may increase further.

He said that as soon as the news of the sinking of the trawler was received, the government officials including the Coast Guard were informed. Barguna District Fishery Trawler Owners Association is also working on the rescue operation of several trawlers in search of fishermen. It is believed that the missing trawlers may have sunk at sea.
