5 Bangladeshis shot on Myanmar border in one day

Dhaka, Feb 7: Four Bangladeshis from Palangkhali and Thaingkhali areas of Ukhiya's Cox's Bazar were shot in firing from Myanmar side.

The incident took place on the Ukhia border from Tuesday morning to 8 pm. The injured are Ayubul Islam of Nalbania area of Palongkhali Union, Anwar Hossain of Rahmaterbil area, Mobarak Hossain of Putibnia area and Md. Kala.

Gafur Uddin Chowdhury, chairman of Palongkhali Union Parishad, said that from Tuesday morning to 8:00 pm four people are under treatment in the hospital due to gunshot wounds. Among them, Anwar Hossain and Mubarak are in serious condition. The sound of firing is still heard. Apart from this, another Bangladeshi named Syed Alam (35) was injured in firing from Myanmar at Ghumdhum border of Naikshyongchari in Bandarban on Tuesday at 3 pm. On his way to the shelter from his home due to shelling, the bullet fired from Myanmar first hit a tree and passed by the side of Syed Alam's forehead. He was seriously injured and was admitted to a local hospital.

Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shahin Imran said that the conflict has increased in Myanmar. Bullets and mortar shells are coming across the border from Myanmar. There are instructions for the safe evacuation of vulnerable residents along the border. In the initial situation, the people of Ghumdhum and Tumbru border have been asked to take shelter safely.
