54.5 lakh tons of fuel oil to be purchased

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 20: The government has decided to buy 54.5 lakh tonnes of refined and unrefined fuel oil (crude oil).

This includes 16 lakh tonnes of crude fuel oil. And refined fuel oil is 38 lakh 60 thousand tonnes. This oil will be purchased for 2023. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given policy approval in this regard. The meeting was held virtually on Wednesday (October 19) under the chairmanship of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

Rahat Anwar, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Department, said that through the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, in-principle approval has been given to purchase 16 lakh tonnes of crude oil from Saudi Aramco and Abu Dhabi's ADNOC through direct purchase method (DPM) for the year 2023.

Besides, the proposal to import 38 lakh 60 thousand tonnes of refined fuel oil through direct purchase method on G-to-G basis through BPC was approved. On the other hand, in-principle approval has been given for a project to develop an environment-friendly sanitation system in Patenga, the southern part of the Chittagong metropolis and adjacent areas.

The project named 'Chittagong Metropolitan Sewerage Project for Patenga Catchment' will be implemented on Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis. Chittagong WASA under the local government department will implement this project.
