Dhaka, May 1: The government has taken measures to bring Bangladeshis trapped in war-torn Sudan back home within the next week. It is expected to be possible to take 700 registered Bangladeshis from Port Sudan to Jeddah by May 3 or 4.

On Sunday, April 30, a coordination meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the progress of repatriation of Bangladeshis staying in Sudan. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam said this while talking to journalists after the meeting.

The state minister said, we hope that the 700 people listed in the first phase on May 2 or 3 will be taken to Port Sudan. From there they will reach Jeddah by ship on May 3 or 4. The Saudi government has arranged a hotel for them to stay there. If necessary, they will be repatriated using Madinah-bound flights within the next 48 hours.

He said those who have passports will be given priority, while those without passports will be sent with travel permits. We have prepared the plane. Biman has multiple services in the Middle East. So they can come to the country by air. Special flights are also available.

Shahriar Alam said that 35 Bangladeshis have already arrived in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates from Sudan. They used to work in various Saudi and Emirates companies in Sudan.

Shahriar Alam said, we have confirmed about 35 people. They used to work in Sudan for other countries. We will bring three of them back to Bangladesh.

Requesting the expatriates who are not on the list of those interested to return home from Sudan to return home, the state minister said, out of the 700 people who have not yet registered, register and return home.

Incidentally, more than 1500 Bangladeshis have been trapped there recently after the war between the army and the militia started in Sudan. It is said that there are altogether 1500 to 1800 Bangladeshis in Sudan. Most of them work and do business in the country.
