ACC files case against former MP's PS and his wife

Dhaka, March 28: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former Sirajganj-4 (Ullapara) MP Tanveer Imam's personal secretary (PS) Mir Ariful Islam Ujjal (46) and his wife Morsheda Maryam (44) on charges of acquiring and usufructing assets beyond the known income.

On Wednesday, Anti-Corruption Commission Pabna District Office Deputy Director Khairul Haque filed two cases as plaintiff.

It is mentioned in the case documents, Mir Ariful Islam Ujjal submitted the information of immovable assets worth Tk 18 lakh 10 thousand and immovable assets worth Tk 1 crore 48 lakh 19 thousand 776 in his filed asset statement on April 17, 2023. However, during the search of the submitted asset statement, immovable assets worth Tk 18 lakh 10 thousand and immovable assets worth Tk 1 crore 50 lakh 68 thousand 959 were found in his name. It means, he has given false information by concealing the information of assets worth Tk 2 lakh 49 thousand 183 in his submitted asset statement.

Also during the investigation it is also seen from the review of the related records, Mir Ariful Islam Ujjwal has obtained and possessed assets inconsistent with the known income worth Tk 45 lakh 83 thousand 895 which is a punishable offense under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act.

On the other hand, in the asset statement of his wife Morsheda Maryam filed on the same date, the information of immovable assets worth Tk 62 lakh 82 thousand 45 and movable assets worth Tk 83 lakh 44 thousand 624 is available. However, during the search, the information of immovable assets worth Tk 62 lakh 82 thousand 45 and movable assets worth Tk 96 lakh 41 thousand 814 was found in her name. In this, she has hidden the information of assets worth Tk 12 lakh 97 thousand 190.
