ACC Summon ACC summons former Gazipur Mayor Jahangir Alam
Dhaka, May 17: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned the sacked mayor of Gazipur, Jahangir Alam, for questioning on charges of misappropriation of money through irregularities in various development projects and transactions through fake bank accounts. In the summons notice, Jahangir Alam has been asked to appear at the ACC head office on May 21 and 22.
The source of the head office of the ACC informed the matter on Wednesday. Earlier on Tuesday (May 16), Jahangir accepted two summons notices sent by the ACC. Two separate notices signed by ACC Deputy Director Md Ali Akbar were sent to the former mayor's address on Monday.
It is known that he has been summoned for the purpose of investigating allegations of misappropriation of crores of rupees from various development projects and transactions of crores of taka in fake bank accounts.
In June last year, the ACC decided to investigate the allegations of misappropriation of crores of taka from various development projects and transactions of crores of rupees in fake bank accounts against the former mayor of Gazipur City, Jahangir Alam. At the same time a team of two members is formed.
On November 25, 2021, the local government department expelled Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Jahangir Alam in a notification. In that notification, fake tenders against Jahangir Alam, irregularities in RFQ tenders related to certain companies, unreasonable recruitment of manpower in various positions, misappropriation of money through fake bills-vouchers on the occasion of World Ijtema and showing the same work in different projects, every year Hatbazar lease money in properly designated sector. Various complaints were raised including non-deposit. Besides, there are complaints regarding land grabbing and road widening without compensation.
