AG Alam dies due to COVID-19

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam died due to Corona. He died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Sunday (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Raziun).

Attorney General's son Sumon Mahbub told Prothom Alo that doctors declared his father dead at 7.25 pm. He said Mahbubey Alam's body would be buried at the Shaheed Buddhijibi Cemetery in Mirpur on Monday afternoon.

Mahbubey Alam, the state's chief legal officer, is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. He was 61 years old. Earlier on the night of September 3, the Attorney General felt fever. The next morning his coronavirus was detected. He was admitted to CMH that day. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on September 17. He was kept in life support.

Senior lawyer Mahbubey Alam was appointed as the 15th Attorney General of the country on January 13, 2009. He held this position until his death.

President Mohammad on the death of the Attorney General. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Law Minister Anisul Haque and various individuals and organizations have expressed deep grief.

In a condolence message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that as a reputed lawyer, she has played a very efficient role in many legal matters of national importance and has always been engaged in the legal profession, which will be followed.

Mahbubey Alam was born on 16 February 1949 in the village of Mouchamandra in Louhjong upazila of Munshiganj. In 1993-94, he was elected secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, the country's highest court lawyers' association. He was elected President of the Bar Association in the period 2005-2006.

Mahbubey Alam participated in various international seminars and symposiums at home and abroad. As part of this, Mahbub Alam has visited many countries of the world including India, Sri Lanka, France, United States, Egypt, United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and Tanzania.
