Dhaka, May 6: Foreign ship MV Anka Sun arrived at Bagerhat's Mongla Port with cargo for Rooppur nuclear power plant directly from Russia. The ship carrying various types of machinery products arrived at Jetty No. 8 of the port at 12 noon on Saturday (May 6).

Sadhan Kumar Chakraborty, Khulna Manager (Operation) of Conveyor Shipping Lines, the local shipping agent of the foreign ship, confirmed this information. He said, on April 2, foreign ship MV Anka Sun left from Novorossiysk port in Russia with 1,622,904 tons of machinery goods bound for Mongla port. Then on Saturday at 12 noon, the Russian-flagged ship arrived at jetty number 8 of Mongla port. After that, the work of releasing various machinery products that came in 630 packages from the ship started from noon. After discharge, this product will be taken by road to Rooppur nuclear power plant's own jetty.

On April 25, MV Yamal Orlan came directly from Russia to Mongla Port with cargo for Rooppur. Before that came MV Dragonball and MV Camilla. Before that, Anka Sun came once again. Due to the issue of US sanctions on Russia, several consignments of Rooppur nuclear power plant's various types of goods arrived at Mongla port via India. On the other hand, the United States of America recently imposed a ban on the transportation of goods from Rooppur to 69 ships of seven shipping companies. As a result, ships that are out of the ban are coming directly to Mongla port with Rooppur products from Russia.

The ships on the embargo list are taking goods from Russia and discharging them at Haldia port in India, from where the goods are coming to Mongla port under the Bangladesh-India transit agreement. Some products are also coming from Haldia port to Rooppur nuclear power plant by road.
