Dhaka, June 8: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas said that DIT Pond of old Dhaka will be de-occupied by demarcating according to the document. On Wednesday, Mayor Mohammad Hanif said this to reporters in the area adjacent to Rajdhani Super Market after conducting a site visit to implement the beautification program under Udalsetu.

The mayor said, "We have already asked our property department to survey the land (DIT pond). The property department will survey it. Many people are claiming ownership of the land. If the claim is not true, we will look into the matter and talk to Rajuk. We will take conservation measures. No one can encroach on it. We will de-encroach the entire area according to the papers, map and demarcate the boundaries of the pond and we will beautify the entire area."

Pointing out that encroachment is increasing as water bodies and ponds owned by various organizations are not handed over to the corporation as per the law, he said, "But we told Rajuk to de-encroach it or hand it over to us. Because it is the responsibility of the city corporation to preserve all the water bodies and ponds- Duties. But still various reservoirs, ponds remain with many organizations. Because of which we want to take proper electrification, but we are not able to take it. Like Taltala Jheel in Khilgaon. But we are applying to public works to hand it over to us. It is also being occupied. Day by day the encroachment of occupation is increasing."

He said that beautification will be done under the flyover in consideration of people's needs and requirements, "How to develop the environment under this flyover is the demand of the people of Dhaka for a long time. It has been neglected for a long time. In view of that, we have appointed consultants. With the consultants, the entire We are looking at the area by walking. We are looking at how to beautify the area by keeping in mind the needs of the local residents. You know, the length of the Mayor Hanif Udalsetu is about 11 kilometers. We have divided it into eight parts. Earlier we inspected four parts. Today we are inspecting two parts. You have seen this whole area, we think there will be a change in a few days and the people of Dhaka will benefit."
