Dhaka, August 9: Another 54 lakh coronavirus vaccines will arrive in the country by August 15, Health Minister Zahid Maleque made the remarks in response to a question from reporters after a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Monday (August 9).

"We will receive 34 lakh doses of the coronavirus vaccine through the COVAX facility between August 9 and 15. China will gift us 10 lakh vaccine and another 10 lakh will come by August 15. Overall, we will receive 54 lakh vaccine by this month, with which we will able to continue the vaccination drive in the country," he said.

"We don't get bulk quantity of vaccines from COVAX at once. So the government has approved to bring another six crore vaccines from China. We are now at the stage of agreement with China. It will go to the economic committee and pass," he said.

The health minister also said that the vaccination activities will be intensified if this vaccine is introduced.

"China will send 10-15 million vaccines in September, 23 million in October and 23 million in November," he said. "COVAX vaccine will come as well. Six million Pfizer vaccine is also expected to come. If they give more vaccines, we will get it. We hope to get the vaccine that India had promised."

"Vaccines are very much needed now," he said. "People are protected with vaccines. However, the mask must be worn, social distance must be maintained. Because, it takes time for antibodies to be produced after vaccination. You have to give a booster dose, you have to take a second dose."

Asked why many people are not getting the vaccination SMS even after registration, the health minister said, "If the vaccine is in hand, the message will continue to go. And when the vaccine is not in stock, the message does not go. The message is given subject to vaccination. The more vaccination comes, the more messages will go."
