Another shipment of 50 lakh Sinopharm vaccine doses arrives in Bangladesh

Dhaka, September 23: Another consignment containing 50 lakh doses of the Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine has reached the country. The shipment arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at 2:00 am on Thursday (September 23). Dr. Abu Zaher, Chief Health Coordinator of the Directorate General of Health services, received the vaccines at the airport. Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Maidul Islam Pradhan confirmed the information.

The vaccination program against coronavirus was started on January 27 this year. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the program at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital with the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine (Covishield) produced by the Serum Institute of India.

As of Wednesday, the total number of vaccinated in the country, including the capital, stands at 3 crore 90 lakh 31 thousand 896 people. The first dose has been received by 2 crore 35 lakh 13 thousand 362 people. And 1 crore 55 lakh 18 thousand 534 people have been vaccinated with the second dose.

Besides, the total number of registrants interested in getting vaccinated till Wednesday is 4 crore 34 lakh 45 thousand 450 people. Among them 4 crore 28 lakh 46 thousand 759 people registered through national identity card and 5 lakh 98 thousand 691 people have done it through passport.
