Own representative, Dhaka, December 7: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the anti-independence and anti-democracy cliques are still active and conspiring in various ways.

She called upon the people to come forward to strengthen the foundations of democracy by resisting all conspiracies against democracy and the country. She emphasized on the development of the country and the welfare of the people in building hunger-poverty-free and happy-prosperous golden Bangladesh. She said this in a message given on the occasion of 'Democracy Liberation Day' on Monday (December 6).

The Prime Minister said December 6, is 'Democracy Liberation Day'. A significant day in the history of the restoration of democracy. Democracy was restored on this day in 1990, with the fall of the dictator, following a long nine-year struggle against the dictatorship. People get back their right to vote. `On this great day, I would like to extend my sincere greetings to the countrymen who are fighting for the vigilance of democracy’.

She said that under the visionary and strong leadership of the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Bengali nation broke the shackles of subjugation and snatched our great freedom. When Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib was engaged in the struggle to build the golden Bangladesh with the whole nation in the newly independent war-torn country, the anti-independence war criminal cliques killed him along with most of his family members. Through this most barbaric assassination, the unconstitutional and illegitimate government came to power and deprived the people of their right to vote. They destroys democratic values. Distorts the glorious history of the great freedom struggle and liberation war. Established a reign of anarchy and terror in the country. An indemnity ordinance was issued blocking the trial of Bangabandhu's assassination.
