Army has earned people's trust through work: PM Hasina

Dhaka, 23 July 2023 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that people's trust and confidence is important for the army.

"Bangladesh Army has achieved it with their efficiency," she said.

She said, "Trust and confidence are very important for any army. Without trust and confidence, freedom and sovereignty cannot be preserved. Today I can say that people have trust and confidence in our army."

The Prime Minister was addressing the inaugural function of the Army Selection Board (First Stage) 2023 at Senakunj in Dhaka Cantonment on Saturday.

She said, "Bangladesh army is the people's army. They always stand by the people of the country and play a very effective role in any calamity."

Referring to the direct involvement of the army in the country's development work, Sheikh Hasina also said that they are working everywhere from infrastructure development.

She said that the army is implementing many big projects.

"So we are sure that the works will be completed quickly with quality assurance," Hasina said.

Referring to a quote by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she said, "Bangabandhu told the army that our army will be the people's army". In this context, Sheikh Hasina also expressed hope that the Bangladesh Army will take the country forward as the people's army.

She asked the Bangladesh Army Selection Board-2023 to select qualified and prudent officers for promotion through impartial evaluation.

The Prime Minister said that a peaceful environment is a prerequisite for development. Appreciating the Bangladesh Army, he said that the army is playing a commendable role by standing by the people in any disaster and crisis.

"Our patriotic army is always with the people of the country," she said.

Many of you know the history after 1975 when many army officers and soldiers were killed in one coup after another.

He said, 'Many have not found their loved ones. Not only I lost my father, mother, brothers and relatives, many army families also lost their loved ones, but no one could talk about it.

Sheikh Hasina said, when she returned to Bangladesh in 1981, she first started talking about it. Because many well-known freedom fighters were brutally killed.

An ISPR press release informed that earlier, when the Prime Minister arrived at the function, he was welcomed by Security Affairs Adviser Major General (retd) Tarek Ahmed Siddique and Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.
