Army personnel killed in KNF IED blast in Bandarban

Dhaka, 18 June 2023 : An army member named Monnaf Hossain Raju (21) was killed in an explosion in Chithipipara of Ruma upazila of Bandarban.

The incident took place on Friday (June 16) around 1:30 p.m.

He was killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) scattered by Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) terrorists while distributing clean water and food saline.

An Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release on Saturday (June 17) also said that an army patrolling party on its way to Paynumpara area to distribute fresh water and food saline from Thichpipara TOB was hit by an IED blast planted by KNF terrorists scattered about 400 meters away from the camp.

In the explosion, soldier Monnaf Hossain Raju and soldier Md. Rezaul (24) were seriously injured.

They were urgently shifted to Chittagong Combined Military Hospital by air force helicopter for treatment.

Later, soldier Monnaf Hossain Raju was martyred while undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family of soldier Monnaf Hossain Raju.

He mentioned that the nation will remember with respect the supreme sacrifice of the army personnel while providing humanitarian assistance to the hill people in addition to the activities to protect the integrity and sovereignty of the country.
