Dhaka, February 24: Bangladeshis living in Ukraine are being advised to take refuge in neighboring Poland in the face of Russian aggression. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said arrangements would be made to bring them back to Bangladesh from there. This information has been informed in the report on Thursday.

The Minister said that the Bangladesh Embassy in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, was in touch with Bangladeshis living in Ukraine. On behalf of the embassy, a meeting was held with about three hundred Bangladeshis in a group on WhatsApp. We have instructed to bring Bangladeshis from Ukraine to Poland for the time being. Arrangements are being made to bring them back to the country from there.

Shahriar Alam said Poland has made a policy decision to issue temporary transit visas to foreigners living in Ukraine for 15 days. Hopefully their decision will be effective today or tomorrow. Then Bangladeshis will be able to enter Poland. He said the Bangladesh Embassy in Warsaw was providing temporary shelter. It is estimated that there are thousands of Bangladeshis in Ukraine. Most of them are students.

Asked about Bangladesh's response to the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the state minister said Bangladesh has always believed in resolving the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy. "Sadly the situation has taken a serious turn. All problems need to be resolved through dialogue on the path to peace. We urge the countries concerned to move towards that dialogue."

Asked what effect the Russia-Ukraine war would have on Bangladesh, Shahriar Alam said the government was conducting a detailed analysis.
