Dhaka, Nov 24: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has claimed that the number of arrests and cases has decreased across the country after the violent incident surrounding the BNP convention on October 28.

The minister said this in response to a question while talking to reporters in his office at the secretariat on Thursday. Earlier, UN Resident Representative in Dhaka Gwen Lewis met the Home Minister.

In response to the question that fires in buses and cars are increasing day by day, he said, "It is not correct that it is increasing day by day. What is happening now is that the security forces do not have to do it, the people of the country are arresting them and handing them over to the police. This is the biggest success. The people of the country do not like these arson and arson. That is why they are arresting these criminals and giving them to the police."

He said, "I have information with police and jail statistics. Before October 28, around 2,000 people went to jail and were arrested on various charges every day across the country. Around two thousand were released again. And after October 28, this number is decreasing. Now an average of 1,816 people are going to jail every day. There can be various reasons for this. Those who are spreading fake news that we are catching whoever we find. But that is not correct."

The Home Minister said, "Before October 28, there were 565 cases every day across the country. Since October 28, there have been 438 cases per day so far. As many as 127 cases have decreased. I gave you the idea that they are saying that we are arresting and prosecuting BNP leaders in political cases, it is not correct."

BNP called a mass meeting in Dhaka on October 28. Violent incidents took place around this gathering. Then the top leaders of BNP were arrested. The party is complaining that BNP leaders and activists are being arrested across the country.
