Jhenaidah Court Arrest warrant issued against three including boat candidate
Dhaka, Jan 4: A court has issued arrest warrants against Jhenaidah-1 constituency's boat candidate Abdul Hai, Shailkupa Upazila Chairman Abdul Hakim and Sarutia Union Chairman Mahmudul Hasan Mamun in the case of violation of election code of conduct.
Jhenaidah Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Baijayanta Biswas issued an arrest warrant against them on Wednesday evening.
Court Public Prosecutor (PP) Ismail Hossain said that a separate case was filed against them on December 24 for violating the code of conduct. The court issued an arrest warrant against them as they did not appear at the scheduled time for the hearing of the case.
On December 10, in Jhenaidah-1 Constituency, the supporters of Abdul Hai, the candidate and current Member of Parliament, conducted a drill with indigenous weapons. On the 12th of the same month Shailkupa Upazila Chairman Abdul Hakim and Sarutia Union Chairman Mahmudul Hasan Mamun gave a provocative speech against the agents of independent candidates in Katlagari market of Sarutia Union. It was a violation of election code of conduct.
According to the instructions of the Election Commission, two separate cases were filed against these three persons. They did not appear in the court on the scheduled day of hearing (Wednesday). As a result, arrest warrants were issued against them.
In this regard Shailkupa Upazila Chairman Abdul Hakim said, "We will deal with it in the legal process."
