Dhaka, October 23: Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that so far the World Health Organization has not recognised any country for the vaccine. Whenever a country gets recognition, Bangladesh will try and get it.

According to the minister, the government is in talks with other countries to bring the vaccine and whenever it gets approved, there will be no delay in acquiring it.

The health minister said this after inaugurating the newly constructed Cardiac Cathlab Zone-2 of the National Heart Institute and Hospital at noon on Thursday.

The health minister said, "The health care department is moving forward on the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh has turned around. Corona has affected the whole world. It has also affected Bangladesh. In the meantime, the rate of corona infection and death in Bangladesh has decreased a lot."

He said, "15-20 thousand separate beds have been arranged in the country's hospitals for corona treatment. We did not have a central oxygen line. We have given approval to set up Central Oxygen Lines in 78 hospitals. We have also installed high flow nasal canola in hospitals. Now the ICUs of the hospital are doing well. We have done a lot in a short time."

The minister said, "The country's health sector has continued to deal with the coronavirus at this time of the epidemic as well as other medical services. On the one hand, corona has to be controlled, on the other hand, work is underway to increase non-covid medical care. Construction work of 8 high quality cancer hospitals has already been started in 8 departments."

In response to various demands of the director of the National Heart Institute and the hospital, Zahid Maleque assured that he would provide OCT machines, rotavator machines and cardiac MRI machines to make the treatment of heart diseases world class.

The minister said the number of beds in all hospitals in the country has been doubled. Dhaka Medical College is being upgraded to 5,000 beds. Similarly, the National Heart Institute is being upgraded from 700 to 1,200 beds soon. Everything is being done to increase the benefits of medical services to the people.

Professor Mir Jamal Uddin, director of the National Heart Institute and Hospital, said, “Although the hospital has 414 beds, an average of 400 to 500 patients are receiving treatment from the floor every day. Once the upward expansion of the hospital is completed, many more patients can be treated from here. Many people in the country will benefit."
