Bangladesh-ASEAN ASEAN Secretary General assures cooperation in supporting Bangladesh's candidacy
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 20: ASEAN Secretary General Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi has expressed his support for Bangladesh's candidature for ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partnership status with the member states of the organization and assured necessary coordination with the member states.
The ASEAN Secretary General gave this assurance during a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta on Monday.
An official statement on Tuesday said Hoi welcomed Bangladesh's initiative for more institutional engagement with ASEAN. The ASEAN Secretary General appreciated the various sectoral initiatives taken by Bangladesh.
Dr. Momen requested the speedy implementation of the decision taken in the upcoming meeting of ASEAN. He agreed with Bangladesh's concern over the delay in the return of Myanmar nationals (Rohingya) who have taken refuge in Bangladesh. The Foreign Minister sought the assistance of ASEAN to speed up the repatriation of the Rohingyas without any delay.
Dr. Momen called for more economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the countries of the South Asian region during the briefing on Bangladesh-ASEAN economic cooperation. The Foreign Minister invited the ASEAN Secretary General to visit Bangladesh.
