Dhaka, 13 January 2024 : Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova commented that there was an attempt to influence the election of Bangladesh from outside. He said it is sad that some opposition political parties of Bangladesh did not participate in the elections.

But there were attempts to influence the election from outside as well. In such a situation, the leadership of Bangladesh should be commended for creating an environment for voters to vote freely.

In response to a question at a regular press conference in Moscow, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia said these things.

On Friday, January 12, the Russian Embassy in Dhaka reported this information on their Facebook page.

Regarding the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh and the formation of the new government, Maria Zakharova said, "The results of the parliamentary elections held in Bangladesh on January 7 have been announced. The ruling party Awami League won 222 out of 300 parliamentary seats. This has ensured them the absolute support of the local citizens.'

He said, "We want to take this opportunity to congratulate the people of Bangladesh for the successful completion of the elections. However, some opposition political parties sadly refrained from participating in the electoral process."

Attempts were also made to influence it from outside, which we have already mentioned on November 22 and December 15 last year.

This spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry also said, "Many local and international observers, including Russia, have already validated the election of Bangladesh."

The Russian delegation was led by Andrei Shutov, a member of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation.

He said, based on the results of the election on January 11, a new government has been formed in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Government Chairman Mikhail Mishustin congratulated Sheikh Hasina.
