ATU arrests IT specialist-turned-militant leader

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 10: The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) has arrested an active member and district leader of the banned militant group Allah'r Dal (Allah's Party).

Name of the arrested terrorist leader is Md. Abu Yusuf (29). He is a resident of Bogura and worked as an IT specialist for an NGO.

Mohammad Aslam Khan, Superintendent of Police (Media and Awareness) of the Anti-Terrorism Unit, said on Wednesday (March 9) afternoon that Yusuf had been arrested in front of America Boarding School in Fultala village of Shajahanpur police station in Bogura district. He is an active member and district leader of the banned militant group Allah'r Dal. An Android mobile phone, a button mobile phone and four SIM cards were seized from his possession during the arrest.

ATU SP Mohammad Aslam Khan said that ATU had arrested three active members including the Bogura district representative and district leader of the banned outfit Allah'r Dal in a raid at Nishindara Paikpara under Bogura Sadar Police Station on February 15. During the interrogation, they provided information about the whereabouts of Abu Yusuf, the district leader of Allah'r Dal and his fugitive. Abu Yusuf was arrested on the basis of information provided by them.

The arrested Abu Yusuf was working as an IT specialist in a private development organization (NGO). As he is proficient in IT, he was responsible for organizing organizational activities, invitations and communication and providing financial support for conducting organizational activities of Allah'r Dal. In the initial interrogation, Yusuf confessed his involvement with Allah'r Dal.

He said that he was following the ideology of banned militant group Allah'r Dal's leader Matin Mehdi alias Matinul Islam Mahbub Matin alias Matinul Haque Mondal. ATU SP Mohammad Aslam Khan also said that there was a case against him under the anti-terrorism law at Bogura Sadar Police Station.
