Avantika's suicide: Protest by former students of Chabi, demand punishment of instigators

Dhaka, March 24, 2024 : Former students of Chittagong staged a protest and human chain in Chittagong demanding the punishment of those who instigated the suicide of Fairuz Sadaf Avantika, the daughter of Tahmina Shabnam, a member of the 23rd batch of Chittagong University.

The program was held in front of the Chittagong Press Club on Saturday afternoon under the banner of the 23rd batch of the former student council of Chabi.

Under the chairmanship of the convenor of the organization Syed Sirajul Islam Komu, joint convenor Aslam Murshed moderated the gathering and the member of the council, Abu Taleb Belal, gave a welcome speech.

Mohammad Abu Kausar, Prof. Ruhi Safdar, Prof. Bichitra Sen, Prof. Pinku Dash, Nahid Sultana, Prof. Mursheda Islam Koli, Humayun Kabir Mitu, Osman Gani Mazumder, Akhter Hussain, Abu Sufian, Rezaul Akbar, Mohammad Ali, Asiful Haque, Saifullah Mansoor, Shah Salim, Amjad Hossain, Mohsin Chowdhury and Mainuddin Majumdar Himu and Chowdhury KM Riyadh.

At this time, the speakers said that educational institutions are a safe place for students, teachers are the second guardians. But the self-immolation of Fairuz Sadaf Avantika, a brilliant law student of Jagannath University, proves that today's classrooms and teachers are not safe for students. It is unfortunate for the nation. They said, Avantika's mother Shabnam is our Chabian and 23rd batch friend. Today we demand exemplary punishment for those who forced Avantika to commit suicide after being bullied in the highest educational institution like the university. The speakers also demanded that the school be free from sexual harassment.
