Dhaka, March 17, 2024 : The police arrested classmate Raihan Siddiqui Amman and Assistant Proctor Deen Islam in connection with the suicide of Jagannath University (JUB) student Fairuz Sadaf Avantika amid the ultimatum of the protesting students.

DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman said on Saturday night that these two were kept under surveillance after the death of the student of Jagannath University.

"They are in police custody," Rahman said.

Earlier on Friday night, Jagannath University (JUB) student Fairuz Avantika committed suicide by accusing her teacher-classmate.

He was a 2017-18 student of the law department of the university. In a post on his Facebook ID at 10 pm on this day, he blamed one of his classmate and assistant proctor Deen Islam named Amman Siddiqui for this incident.

General students organized human chain and protest march to ensure speedy trial of those responsible in this incident. At 3:30 pm on Saturday, the students circled the university campus with a protest procession.

After that, the procession went around Victoria Park and Kabi Nazrul Government College and ended at the main gate of the university.

After that, the students held a short rally.

Later, the protesting students stood in the sculpture square of the university and announced six-point demands. They gave a 12-hour ultimatum to implement these demands.
