Awami candidate Nilufar Anjum wins Mymensingh stalled seat

Dhaka, 14 January 2024 : Nilufar Anjum of the boat symbol has won the stalled Mymensingh-3 (Gouripur) seat in the 12th National Assembly Elections.

She got 54 thousand 490 votes. His closest rival, independent candidate Somnath Saha of Truck Pratik got 52,566 votes.

Upazila election officer Mohammad Farooq Mia said this on Saturday evening.

The total number of voters in the suspended Bhalukpur Government Primary School center is 3 thousand 32 people.

Among them, 1 thousand 677 votes were cast. Boat got 1,295 votes and Somnath Saha of truck symbol got 355 votes.

Nilufar Anjum was elected Member of Parliament for the first time on boat nomination.

Currently she is a member of Upazila Awami League.

Somnath Saha Upazila Awami League general secretary of independent candidate Truck Prateik. Earlier, polling started at 8 am in the Bhalukapur Government Primary School center and continued till 4 pm.

Gouripur Upazila Assistant Returning Officer and Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Nahidul Karim said, "Voting was held without any disorder". Earlier, during the polling on January 7, the polling was canceled when the miscreants stole the ballot box from the Bhalukapur Government Primary School Centre. In Mymensingh-3 constituency, the main contest is between Awami League candidate Nilufar Anjum and independent candidate Somnath Saha.
