Dhaka, 13 June 2023 : Awami League candidates won in Khulna and Barisal City Corporation elections.

Awami League nominated candidate Talukdar Abdul Khalek has been elected mayor for the third time in Khulna. According to private results, he won by a huge margin.

On the other hand, Awami League nominated candidate Abul Khair Abdullah Serniabat was elected mayor for the first time in the Barisal City Corporation elections. He also won by a huge margin according to unofficial results.

The results show that Talukdar Abdul Khalek, the candidate of boat in Khulna, got 1 lakh 54 thousand 825 votes. His closest rival is the candidate of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh hatpakha symbol. A. Awal got 60 thousand 64 votes. In other words, Talukdar Abdul Khalek won by getting more than 94 thousand 761 votes. And Shafiqul Islam Madhu, the candidate of plow symbol, got 18074 votes.

There were five mayoral candidates in the Khulna City Corporation election. 136 candidates contested for councilor post of general 31 wards and 39 candidates for councilor post of 10 reserved wards. Total voters are 5 lakh 35 thousand 529 people. Among them 2 lakh 66 thousand 696 women and 2 lakh 68 thousand 833 men.

The result of Barisal City Corporation election shows that the candidate of boat symbol Abul Khair Abdullah Khokon Serniabat got 87 thousand 808 votes. His closest rival, the candidate of the Hatpakha symbol of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim got 33 thousand 828. That is, Khokon Serniabat won by getting more than 53 thousand 980 votes. And Iqbal Hossain Tapas of Langal Pratik got 6 thousand 665 votes.

Total voters are 2 lakh 76 thousand 298 in 126 centers in 30 wards in Barisal City. Among them, 1 lakh 37 thousand 489 male voters and 1 lakh 38 thousand 809 female voters.
