Awami League not afraid of BNP's movement threats: Obaidul Quader

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 31: General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said that from Bangabandhu to Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League has been with the people for the last seven decades - so the party is not afraid of the BNP's movement threat.

He said this at a press conference organized at his residence on Tuesday morning.

Obaidul Quader said in response to the statements of BNP leaders that the government is trying to create anarchy in the country, why would the government create anarchy? The government wants people's comfort and stability. In fact, BNP has started creating anarchy and terror activities in the country in the name of agitation.

Stating that BNP did not give peace and relief to the people even when it was in power, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister said that the country and the nation have not yet forgotten the horrors of BNP's misrule.

He said BNP is again trying to create anarchy in the country along with radical communal forces against independence. Lacking popular support for their alleged movement, they have become dependent on terror.

Obaidul Quader called upon BNP to shun the path of terrorism and anarchy to ensure the wealth and comfort of the people and said that BNP is seeing another One-Eleven nightmare. There is no use in these dreams.

Awami League General Secretary claimed that the political character of BNP is not to keep its mouth shut. It is contrary to what BNP says and does. Talks about elections, democracy, human rights, and suffrage - all of which have gone wrong in their hands. The duplicity of BNP is clear to the people of the country.

Obaidul Quader said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's development and people-oriented politics have pushed the political future of BNP into darkness. So BNP is trying to seize power in an undemocratic way.

General Secretary of Awami League said to the BNP leaders, what is called a peaceful programme could not be proved in the past, we will deal with all programmes politically.

If elements of violence are added to the programme, the government will strictly suppress it to protect the lives and property of the people. He said, BNP's movement means violence, setting people's property on fire, so Awami League will not leave their misdeeds unchallenged.
