Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day celebrated with various events

Dhaka: The historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been celebrated all over the country including the capital Dhaka through various programs.

The day's program began on Monday morning with the hoisting of national and party flags at the Awami League's central office, Bangabandhu Bhaban and other party offices across the country.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with her younger sister and younger daughter of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Rehana paid their respects by laying a wreath at her portrait in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi this morning.

After laying the wreath, the Prime Minister stood there in silence for a while as part of a deep homage to the memory of the great architect of independence, Bangabandhu.

The undisputed leader of the Bengali nation, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to the holy land of independent Bangladesh on 10 January 1972 after 290 days in Pakistani prisons via London and New Delhi. Since then, the nation has been observing this day every year as the Father of the Nation Homecoming Day.

Later, on behalf of the Awami League, senior leaders of the party paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu.

On the occasion of Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day, the Awami League organized a limited discussion meeting at its central office on Bangabandhu Avenue on Monday afternoon. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the discussion via video conference.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's Homecoming Day, tributes were paid on behalf of Awami League at the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara.

On Monday morning at 11:20 on behalf of the Central Awami League presidium member Lt. Led by Colonel (Retd.) Faruk Khan MP, wreaths were laid at the altar of Bangabandhu's mausoleum.
