Dhaka, 7 August 2022 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, 'My mother was the charioteer of my father's struggle for country and freedom.

"My mother always gave me courage. But the self-sacrifice of my mother for the country and people has rarely come up," she said, "Father was out most of the time for the struggle, but never bothered. He said, I will see you don't worry. Apart from managing the family, Banga Mata also consulted the father of the nation in taking many timely political decisions. It gave momentum to the movement-struggle."

She said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the two-day international conference at Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of Dhaka University (DU) at 11 am on Sunday (August 7). The conference titled 'Bangamata: A Paragon of Women's Leadership and Nation-Building in Bangladesh' was organized by the newly formed Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatun Nescha Center for Gender and Development Studies.

Sheikh Hasina said, "Faced with death, my mother did not beg for her life from the murderers." He gave his life. Seeing the dead body of the father of the nation lying on the stairs, he directly said - you killed him, kill me too. There they brutally killed my mother. My mother had no demands. For the country, for the people, for the party, he made the highest sacrifice. Any girl in the world can follow it.

The Prime Minister also said, "From mother tongue to independence, Dhaka University (DU) has made a great contribution in all the movements and struggles of the country." After independence, Dhaka University is playing a major role in nation building and all democratic movements. Today we have got the status of least developed to developing country, the biggest contribution of this university. I feel proud as a student of Dhaka University. Almost everyone in my family was a student of this university.

While inaugurating the newly formed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nescha Center for Gender and Development Studies, the head of government said, "I sincerely thank Dhaka University for the decision it has taken for my mother. May your initiative be successful. I assure you, I will give maximum cooperation from my side.
