Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 30: The under-construction Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli river will be opened for traffic in December.

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said this. He said one tube of the tunnel will be opened by the end of October or the first week of November and the second tube in December.

He said this in response to questions from journalists after a programme organized at Chittagong Circuit House on Friday (July 29). He was present as the chief guest in the discussion meeting with all the Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and Heads of Law Enforcement Forces of Chittagong Division.

BPC Chairman ABM Azad was also present in the meeting. In the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary instructed the field level officials to be alert about the recent crisis.

Khandaker Anwarul Islam said that the work of the tunnel has been implemented very easily. Such a big project, its implementation on time is a big success for the country. The tunnel will be identified as a model for Bangladesh.

In response to journalists' questions about the price of fuel, he said that when the price falls in the world market, the price in Europe and America falls. If it increases again, the price increases. But we don't have this practice in our country. The government has not yet announced an increase in fuel prices. But if the situation is like that then the government may think what can be done. But the price has not been increased yet.

'After the Second World War, supply channels were not closed like this in the world. Naturally there will be an effect on everyone. We all have to deal with it together.'

The cabinet secretary said that work is underway to bring the dollar price in the bank and the open market. The government is also taking necessary steps to solve the gas crisis.
