Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia interested in strengthening bilateral relations

Dhaka, Feb 1: Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia have expressed keen interest in taking the existing excellent bilateral relations to a higher level.

Saudi Arabia's Shura Council President Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh expressed this interest when he paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban on Thursday.

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon briefed the journalists.

He said, "The Prime Minister of Bangladesh said that religious, cultural and economic ties between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia are based on rich and long-standing historical ties."

She also said that for Bangladeshi Muslims Islam was born in Saudi Arabia and the two holy places of Mecca and Medina have a special place in our hearts. Thousands of Bangladeshis perform the holy Hajj and Umrah every year.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the recent developmental activities, reforms and emerging role of Saudi Arabia in global issues under the visionary leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Bin Muhammad Bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh congratulated Sheikh Hasina on being re-elected as Prime Minister.

He said, "Saudi Arabia has always been with Bangladesh and they have a long historical relationship with Dhaka. He praised the unprecedented development of Bangladesh under the visionary leadership of Sheikh Hasina."
