Bangladesh completes Hajj agreement with Saudi Arabia

Dhaka, Jan 9: Bangladesh has signed a bilateral agreement with the Saudi government to perform Hajj this year (2024). The agreement was signed at 11 am local time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Monday.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs A. Hamid Jamaddar and the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia Abdul Fattah bin Sulaiman Mashat signed the agreement. Joint Secretary of Hajj Division of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Md. Manjurul Haque shared this information. According to the agreement, 1 lakh 27 thousand 198 Bangladeshis will get the opportunity to perform Hajj this year as well, the joint secretary said.

Registration for Hajj from Bangladesh has already started. Hajj registration started on November 15. In the first phase, the registration period was fixed till December 10. Later the time was extended till December 31. But due to no response to the registration, the registration period was extended till January 18.

It is said that in the meeting with Saudi, various issues were discussed in detail for the sake of smooth and orderly Hajj management and the welfare of Bangladeshi pilgrims. The delegation of Bangladesh visiting Saudi Arabia includes Motiul Islam, Additional Secretary of Hajj Division of Ministry of Religion, Director of Hajj Office Saiful Islam, Hajj Councilor Zahirul Islam, President of Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAB) M Shahadat Hossain Taslim. During the agreement, the Secretary of Religion discussed in detail the various aspects of Hajj management and increasing the opportunities of Hajj pilgrims.

The Hub president said that without reducing the number of Hajj agencies, the Saudi Deputy Minister has been requested to keep all the agencies as in other years and manage the Hajj activities. If the number of agencies is kept as before without reducing, it will be convenient to serve the pilgrims. At the same time, considering the welfare of all Hajj pilgrims, including the elderly Bangladeshis, detailed arguments have been presented in favor of not reducing the number of Hajj agencies. The Saudi deputy minister assured to consider the matter.
