Dhaka, November 13, 2022 : Minister of Information and Broadcasting has demanded separate allocation of funds from the World Climate Fund to meet the damage to the country's water and sewage infrastructure as a result of natural disasters caused by climate change. Hasan Mahmud.

In parallel to the main conference of the ongoing 27th World Climate Conference in Sharm Al Sheikh, Egypt, on Friday evening, local time, in the Bangladesh Pavilion, Dr. Dr. Dr. Hashan raised this claim.

He said that many people did not want to admit the massive damage to water and sewerage as a result of natural disasters. However, the amount of damage to the public life of many countries, including Bangladesh, which is at risk of climate change, is extensive. Adaptation or adaptation to environmental change should not be financed from the allocation, but for the compensation and elimination of this damage, a separate sector should be created and allocated money separately.

The Minister mentioned that the participation of world leaders including US President Joe Biden in COP27 is very hopeful. Hasan Mahmud also said, "We are all talking good things here, but if the war does not stop, what will happen to climate finance?" That is, if we really want to save the world, we must immediately take the initiative to stop the war in Ukraine.

Among the adverse impacts of climate change on Bangladesh's water supply and sanitation are sea level rise and ambient temperature rise, unseasonal rainfall, drought and increased saltwater intrusion in coastal areas, riverbank erosion, cyclones and flash floods, damage caused by flash floods in urban areas and near reservoirs.
