Bangladesh flood loss at Tk 86,812 cr

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 26: In recent times, floods have caused financial losses of approximately Tk 86,811 crore 65 lakh 59 thousand 872 in 18 districts of the country.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman, gave this information to reporters after the inter-ministerial meeting of the Disaster Management Coordinating Committee regarding the recent flood, damage review and action determination at the Secretariat on Monday (July 25).

He said, this time, there has been an estimated financial loss of Tk 86,811 crore 65 lakh 59 thousand 872. Estimated financial value of crops damaged by flood (full) is 1,258 crore 53 lakh 91 thousand 112 taka and estimated financial value of damaged crops (partial) is 55,957 crore 21 lakh 20 thousand 508 taka. Damaged houses (full) worth 364 crore 84 lakh 50 thousand 43 taka and damaged houses (partial) worth 1,355 crore 3 lakh 10 thousand 555 taka.

The state minister said that total and partial damages to bridges/culverts, paved roads, brick-built roads, unpaved roads, primary schools, high schools, colleges, community schools, mosques, madrasas, temples and dams is estimated at 86,811 crore 65 lakh 59 thousand 872 taka.

He said, 12 people died and 2,880 people were injured in the flood that started on June 14, the number of sheltered people is 72 lakh 81 thousand 204. The number of people affected by the flood is 28 lakh 39 thousand 6.

When the state minister was drawn attention to the fact that the unofficial casualty figure is higher, he said that the number was probably like 72. But others have died in lightning strikes, shipwrecks, snake bites.

The state minister said, from April 1 to July 21, the government distributed 7,020 metric tonnes of rice, 9 crore 44 lakh taka in cash, 1 lakh 40 thousand 132 packets/bags of dry and other food, Tk 40 lakh for buying baby food, Tk 40 lakh for purchase of fodder, 2 crores 61 lakhs for housing allowance, and 8,700 bundles of corrugated iron sheet have been allotted.
