Dhaka, Ocotber 25: Cyclone Sitrang no longer affects Bangladesh. It has exhausted its strength and crossed Bangladesh, said the Meteorological Department. Sanaul Haque Mandal, deputy director of the Meteorological Department, told reporters this information on Tuesday (October 25) afternoon.

He said, "Due to the impact of the cyclone, the maximum speed was 74 km in Chittagong and Cox's Bazar. At present, there is an excess of air pressure in the North Bay of Bengal area. That is why the seaports have been asked to show warning signal number 3. We are free from the impact of the cyclone."

Haque added, "It started crossing the coast at 9 pm yesterday. Later, the cyclone made landfall and weakened as a land depression, first remaining as a land depression over Dhaka, Comilla and adjoining areas. After that, it weakened and became insignificant."

He further said that the maximum water height of 6 feet was recorded in Bhola under the influence of Sitrang. Besides, the maximum rainfall recorded in Barisal is 324 mm.

He said, "In the next 5-6 days, there is no chance of heavy rainfall in Bangladesh. Our winter season is December, January and February. After occasional rains, it will feel a little cold now. If the sun shines, the temperature will rise."

Meteorologist Abdul Mannan said, "The impact of Sitrang will not remain in Bangladesh after afternoon. We will get normal weather again in Bangladesh region after 6 pm."

He further said, "There is very little chance of a new cyclone forming in the North Bay of Bengal in the next five-seven days. Even if there is an exception, we will monitor it and inform everyone."

He said, "Though there is no possibility of a cyclone in November, there will be a cyclone in December. The coastal region of the country is never free of cyclones. Everyone should be prepared from now on. Due to excess rainfall, it will feel cold for two days. But it will be full winter in January. There is no sign of winter for now."
