Bangladesh: Government offices directed to work virtually

Dhaka, July 11, 2021: The government has directed to conduct virtual office work in government offices amid strict restrictions imposed to prevent coronavirus infection.

This instruction is sent in a notification to the senior secretaries / secretaries of all the ministries / divisions from the cabinet department.

It said all government, semi-government, autonomous and private offices have been instructed to close due to restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus-related diseases.

With the exception of the current situation in the country, all emergency offices and service activities are running. The letter instructed to take necessary steps to complete the official work of these government offices virtually (e-documents, e-tendering, e-mail, SMS, various means including WhatsApp).

A seven-day strict ban began at 8am on July 1 as coronavirus infections increased at an alarming rate. The ban lasted until midnight on July 6. Later, the ban was extended for another 7 days, i.e. till July 14.

21 conditions were given in the notification issued by the Cabinet Division imposing strict restrictions. As per the conditions, government and non-government offices, machine-powered vehicles and shopping malls are closed except for the emergency services.
