Bangladesh has experienced unprecedented economic development: French President Macron

Dhaka, Sept 11: French President Emmanuel Macron said that there has been unprecedented economic development in Bangladesh in the last few years.

He made this comment at the dinner organized in honour of the French President at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Sunday night. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined it. The dinner was preceded by a cultural performance.

The French President said, "Bangladesh-France friendship is long-standing. If I look back, we were there for each other through the tough times. Now there is regular contact between the people of our two countries. Fifty-two years ago we felt that we belong to the same family."

Emmanuel Macron said, "Bangladesh has improved its position in the world by making extensive development. There has been great development in trade, industry, culture. Climate change is a big challenge that Bangladesh is facing. The beauty of various lakes, rivers and canals, especially the natural environment like the Sundarbans, is playing a significant role in this."

He said, "After the liberation war, our focus was on the independence and sovereignty of friendly countries. Keeping it intact, there has been unprecedented economic development in Bangladesh in the last few years. At the same time, the country's role in combating climate change is commendable. We want to open new horizons of relations between the two countries."

The President of France also said, "We want the two countries to travel together for a long time. I want your (Sheikh Hasina) help to strengthen the bond of friendship between the two countries and for a beautiful future."

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "Since independence, France has been our trusted development partner. Our partnership can play a role in solving various problems of the world including various crises, climate change."

The French President arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a two-day visit after the G-20 summit in India at 8 pm on Sunday. Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed him with flowers around 8:30 pm. Meanwhile, Macron was given a red carpet reception.
