Bangladesh has second largest IT freelancer community in the world

Dhaka, June 15: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh currently has the second largest registered IT freelancer community in the world. Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship has been launched besides establishing a new Institute of Frontier Technology to help them become more efficient and better.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing the conference titled 'Investment in Research and Development in LDCs for a Smart and Innovative Society' at the UN Fifth Conference of Least Developed Countries held in Qatar recently.

The Prime Minister said these in response to a question from Habibur Rahman, Member of Parliament of Bogra-4 Constituency, which was presented on the table during the question and answer session scheduled for him in the National Parliament on Wednesday.

She said, "Development of IT skills for all is one of the goals of our government. To achieve this goal, I have mentioned the steps to establish Sheikh Russell Digital Lab and School in educational institutions. Later, the project to establish the Institute of Nano Technology in Eknek and the Cabinet took place."

Sheikh Hasina said, "Under the Bangabandhu Fellowship on Science and ICT project, from 2010-2016, Tk 40,000 per month for PhD in the country, Tk 45,000 per month for post-Ph.D., Tk 1 lakh 20 thousand per month for MS/PhD abroad (Australia, Japan, European countries) and MS/PhD in other countries living allowance is provided at the rate of Tk 65,000 per month.

The Prime Minister said, besides, from Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship Trust, from 2017 to June 1, 2023, MS will receive Tk 54,000 annually, M Phil first year Tk 68,000 and second year Tk 99,000 and PhD at the rate of Tk 3 lakh (subject to renewal for 3 years) monthly. Living Allowance is provided.
