Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin is currently in Indonesia to attend the ASEAN Summit.

On the sidelines of the conference, a bilateral meeting was held between the President of Bangladesh and the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, on Wednesday, September 6.

In the meeting, Dhaka and Jakarta expressed their commitment to work together in energy, agriculture and health sectors.

Meanwhile, the President expressed hope for direct flights from Dhaka to Jakarta and Bali soon.

In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs AK Abdul Momen said in the press conference that Bangladesh and Indonesia have already signed three MoUs in the energy and health sectors.

Sahabuddin expressed his sincere thanks to the President of Indonesia for inviting him and for the excellent hospitality to the Bangladesh delegation.

The Indonesian president lauded Bangladesh's development in the health sector, particularly Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's planned 'community clinic' concept - which has won widespread praise worldwide. At this time, he also mentioned about extensive development in various socio-economic sectors of Bangladesh.

President Md. Sahabuddin said Indonesia can import international quality medicines, ceramics and ready-made garments (RMG) products from Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the President invited Indonesian investors to invest heavily in Bangladesh due to the continuation of the investment-friendly environment in Bangladesh for the past decade.

Quoting the President, Momen said, initiatives have been taken to ensure a mutual decision to recognize the certificates of doctors of the two countries.

Md. Sahabuddin said Bangladesh is establishing 100 Special Economic Zones (SEZ), 39 Hi-Tech Parks and other Special Economic Zones. He also said that if Indonesia is interested, then Bangladesh will determine the economic zone for them.

The President also said that Bangladesh wants to transform into a manufacturing hub located at the crossroads of South Asia and Southeast Asia.

"Bangladesh aims to become a trillion dollar economy by the end of this decade," the Bangladeshi President said.

Meanwhile, the President emphasized on greater cooperation between the private sector of the two countries to get investment opportunities.
