Dhaka, October 9: Bangladesh wants to make a quick extradition agreement with the United States to return Bangabandhu's self-confessed murderer Rashed Chowdhury to Bangladesh immediately. The government has also called the US authorities for this. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam discussed the matter in a meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman on Friday. The meeting was held at the State Department in Washington DC.

State Minister Shahriar Alam urged the US government to immediately return Bangabandhu's self-confessed killer Rashed Chowdhury to Bangladesh, according to a notification sent by the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington. He said that this issue is very important to the people of Bangladesh and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The State Minister stressed on the execution of the extradition agreement between Bangladesh and the United States as soon as possible.

It is to be noted that earlier, Bangladesh signed an extradition agreement with Thailand in 1998 to bring back Bajlul Huda, another murderer of Bangabandhu. He was brought back that year.

Rashed Chowdhury is currently under political asylum in the United States. Bangladesh has wanted Rashed Chowdhury back for a long time but no visible progress has been made so far.
