Dhaka, March 4: Bangladesh is ahead of Australia in providing corona vaccine. Newly-appointed Australian High Commissioner in Dhaka Jeremy Brewer made the remarks during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban on Wednesday (March 3rd).

Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters on the issue. "Bangladesh is ahead of Australia in terms of vaccination," he was quoted as saying by Australian High Commissioner Jeremy Brewer. Along with other foreign diplomats, High Commissioner Jeremy himself took the first dose of Corona Ticker in Dhaka.

The Prime Minister told the High Commissioner, "The Corona situation in Bangladesh is under control. The government has been able to control the Covid-19 situation by taking timely steps by mobilizing people from all walks of life, including the local administration, the armed forces, the police, the BGB, the Awami League and its affiliates.

The press secretary said the Australian ambassador praised Bangladesh for being able to control Covid-19. He expressed Australia's interest in strengthening cooperation with Bangladesh in various sectors including economy. The Prime Minister recalled Australia's contribution to the war of liberation. "Australia is one of the first countries to recognize Bangladesh when it gained independence in 1971," he said.

Jeremy expressed his country's interest in participating in the voyage to mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation and the golden jubilee of independence. He also informed the Prime Minister that the Australian cricket team would visit Bangladesh to play T20 series this year. He also praised the Bangladesh cricket team.

The Prime Minister mentioned that Bangladesh has received the cooperation of Australia in the development of cricket. He also hoped for the effective cooperation of the international community in finding a lasting solution to the Rohingya problem.

Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Kaikaus was present during the meeting.
