Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 23: An agreement has been signed between Bangladesh and Korea for the construction of a bridge over the Payra River on the Kachua-Betagi-Patuakhali-Loalia-Kalaiya Road.

The agreement was signed between Korean Samhoan Corporation and Bangladesh's Mir Akhtar Joint Venture on Tuesday at Setu Bhaban in the capital. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was present as the chief guest at the signing ceremony. The construction of the bridge is targeted to be completed by 2025.

Obaidul Quader said that Shirshendu Biswas, a fourth class student of Patuakhali, had written a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requesting her to take necessary steps for the construction of a bridge over the Payra river, following which the Prime Minister had instructed to take steps to build the bridge.

He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu and a symbol of confidence of Bengalis, would have been a shining example in the history of Bangladesh in responding to the request of the child. The probable cost of construction of this bridge which is about 1700 meters long is estimated to be 1,042 crore rupees.
