Dhaka, February 26, 2022: Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen has urged for immediate exhcnage of knowledge and technology on creating vaccines.

He said that this would enable the drug-producing countries like Bangladesh to produce and distribute vaccines on a large scale. He made the call at a ceremony titled "Galvanizing Momentum for Universal Vaccination" at the UN General Assembly on Friday (February 25th).

The event was attended by heads of state and government of different countries, Secretary General of the United Nations, Director General of the World Health Organization and ministers and senior political leaders of UN member states.

Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's call for treating the Covid vaccine as a 'universal global resource', the Foreign Minister said developed countries and producers must ensure global supply of the Covid-19 vaccine through the Covac facility on an equal footing. He said that in order to meet the global demand for vaccines, its production needs to be further enhanced and decentralized. In addition, the world community must unite in the fight against misinformation and vaccination nationalization.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the timely steps taken by the government in tackling and managing Kovid in Bangladesh. He highlighted issues related to strengthening healthcare up to the grassroots level and ensuring a significant balance in the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable people through direct cash and other assistance.

The minister said that as of mid-February 2022, more than 101 million people had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. We plan to vaccinate at least 60 percent (approximately 132 million) of our population as soon as possible to effectively combat the Kovid epidemic.

A bilateral meeting between the Foreign Minister and the Minister of International Development of Canada was held at the Indonesia Lounge of the UN Headquarters on the same day. The Foreign Minister briefed Canadian Minister Harjeet Sajjan on the ongoing situation in Rohingya and sought Canada's assistance in repatriating Rohingya.
The Foreign Minister also drew the attention of the Government of Canada to the repatriation of Nur Chowdhury, the murderer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the fugitive nation in Canada.
