Dhaka, November 3: Today is 3 November- Jail Killing Day. This is the second scandalous chapter in the history of the nation after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15, 1975.

Less than three months after the brutal assassination on August 15, one of the heroic fighters of the liberation war and four national leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, AHM Kamaruzzaman and Captain Mansur Ali were brutally killed inside the Dhaka Central Jail on this day.

Earlier, the four national leaders were sent to the central jail after August 15.

Today, the nation will remember one of the most barbaric black chapters in the history of the country by paying due respect to one of the heroic fighters of the liberation war and four national leaders. This mournful day will be celebrated all over the country in compliance with the health rules at the initiative of various parties and organizations including Awami League.

Known as the most hated traitor member of Bangabandhu's cabinet and the then self-proclaimed President Khandaker Mushtaq Ahmed and Bangabandhu's two assassins Colonel (retd) Syed Faruk Rahman and Lt. Colonel (retd) Khandaker Abdur Rashid plotted to assassinate four national leaders in jail. For this work they also formed a deadly team in the earlier part.

The leader of this group was Risaldar Musleh Uddin.

He was Farooq's most trusted officer.

Musleh Uddin led the group that carried out the massacre at Sheikh Moni's residence on 15 August.

Renowned South Asian journalist Anthony Mascarenhas elaborated on this in his book Bangladesh a Legacy of Blood. He said that after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family, a plan was hatched to assassinate four national leaders in jail. The plan was to take action in the event of a counter-coup. A five-member assassination team was also formed for this purpose.

The assassins were instructed to go to the central jail and kill the four national leaders as soon as a counter-coup took place. Four such leaders were assassinated in the central jail shortly after Khaled Musharraf staged a counter-coup on November 3, 1975.
