Bangladesh on verge of touching a milestone in giving single dose vaccine

Dhaka, 8 February 2022: Bangladesh is on the verge of touching the milestone of single dose vaccination of 100 million people across the country including Dhaka.

On January 26, 2021, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the immunization program at Kurmitola General Hospital. Since then, nine crore 79 lakh 32 thousand 106 people have taken the first or single dose till last Saturday (February 5).

Health and pathology experts say the country will reach the milestone of 100 million single-dose vaccinations in the next two days. To prevent coronavirus, the government has stepped up its efforts to vaccinate 80 percent of the country's population, or 116 million people (first, second and booster doses).

Vaccination activities have reached capital, division, district, upazila and even grassroots community clinics. As such, Bangladesh will set a record of 100 million single dose vaccinations in a day or two.

According to the Department of Health, the first, second and third doses of vaccination in the country, including Dhaka, stood at 16 crore 55 lakh six thousand 14 till February 5. 9 crore 69 lakh 32 thousand 106 people took first dose vaccine, 6 crore 46 lakh 8 thousand 535 people took second dose and 19 lakh 65 thousand 362 people took booster dose.

Meanwhile, a total of 10 lakh 80 thousand 753 people have been vaccinated in the last 24 hours till February 5 in the country. The first dose is two lakh 98 thousand 332 people (one lakh 51 thousand 369 males and one lakh 45 thousand 953 females), the second dose is six lakh 94 thousand 956 people (three lakh 29 thousand 398 males and three lakh 75 thousand 571 females) and The booster dose was taken by 6,573 people (42,318 men and 26,245 women).

Department of Health Pathology, Disease Control and Research Institute (IEDCR) Chief Scientific Officer. ASM Alamgir said that according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization, if it is possible to bring 80 percent of the people of any country under vaccination, hard immunity (public health disease prevention system) is created. The number of first dose vaccinations in the country so far has reached 100 million milestones.
