Dhaka, November 18: Bangladesh has been called to lead the 'Action Group' formed under the Commonwealth's 'Blue Charter' for playing a role in climate change. Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland made this call.

The Commonwealth Secretary held a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on Wednesday (November 17). They are in Egypt on the occasion of the World Climate Conference (COP-27). This meeting was held in a gap of the conference. The Blue-Charter helps Commonwealth countries work together in an inclusive and sustainable manner on ocean protection and economic development.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister welcomed the Commonwealth Secretary General's suggestion to form a high-level core group to raise awareness on mental health issues. At the same time, the minister requested to increase the number of Commonwealth scholarships for Bangladeshi students.
