Dhaka, July 27: According to the preliminary report of Census and Housing Census 2022, the literacy rate across the country is 74.66 percent. Men are currently ahead of women in the aspect. Compared to the 2011 census, Bangladesh has achieved great success in the literacy. In the 2011 census, the literacy rate in the country was 51.77 percent.

These data are highlighted in the preliminary report of the first digital census and household census 2022 implemented through BBS under the Department of Statistics and Information Management. According to the report, currently the total population of Bangladesh is 16 crore 51 lakh 58 thousand 616 people. Among them, the number of men is 8 crore 17 lakh 12 thousand 824 people, the number of women is 8 crore 33 lakh 47 thousand 206 people and the number of transgender people is 12 thousand 629 people.

According to the report, the literacy rate in the country is 74.66 percent according to the census and household census. Among them, the male literacy rate is 76.56 percent and the female literacy rate is 72.82 percent. This rate was 51.77 percent in 2011 census. Among them, male literacy rate was 54.11 percent and female literacy rate was 49.44 percent. In the 2011 census, there is no account of the literacy of Hijras, but in this census, the literacy rate of the Hijras community is 53.65 percent.

The report also found that urban areas have higher enrollment rates than rural areas. According to census and household enumeration the total enrollment rate of rural areas is 71.56 percent. Among them, the signature rate of men is 73.29 percent, the signature rate of women is 69.93 percent and the signature rate of transgender community is 51.97 percent. Besides, the total signature rate in urban areas is 81.28 percent. Among them, the signature rate of men is 83.18 percent, women are 79.30 percent and the signature rate of transgender community is 55.28 percent.

In the 2011 census also the enrollment rate was higher in urban areas than in rural areas. In 2011 census the total enrollment rate of Palli area was 47.16 percent. Out of this, male signature rate was 49.01 percent and female signature rate was 45.38 percent. In addition, the total enrollment rate in urban areas was 66.40 percent in 2011. Among them, the male signature rate was 69.30 percent, while the number of female signatures was 63.22 percent.
