Bangladesh to buy 5 warships from the UK

Dhaka, November 6: Bangladesh will buy five warships from the United Kingdom. Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen made the announcement at a virtual press conference from the United Kingdom on Friday (November 5).

He said the UK wanted to send a few ships to the Naval Force in Bangladesh. "The final decision in this regard will be made later. But we agreed in principle, to take five ships. Of these, three will be made in the UK and the other two in Bangladesh."

Referring to the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Momen said, "Various issues have been discussed with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The two sides also discussed the joint celebration of the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year."

Momen said the return of convicted criminals and murderers residing in the UK had been sought. "The return of convicted criminals from the UK has been discussed. We have said that in order to establish the rule of law, all criminals and murderers must be returned."

The Foreign Minister said, "The Prime Minister has called upon the expatriates to invest in Bangladesh. She promised that all kinds of benefits will be given to the investment of expatriates.

Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen and Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Sayeda Muna Tasnim were present at the press conference.
