Bangladesh to observe Shab e Miraj on March 11

Dhaka, February 13: The moon of the holy month of Rajab was not seen anywhere in the sky in Bangladesh on Friday. Therefore, the holy Shab e Miraj will be celebrated on the night of March 11. This was informed following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the meeting hall of the Islamic Foundation Baitul Mukarram. Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Md. Altaf Hossain Chowdhury presided over the meeting.

The meeting was informed that the moon of the holy month of Rajab of 1442 AH was not seen anywhere in the sky of Bangladesh on Friday. As a result, the holy month of Jamadius Sunny will be completed in 30 days on Saturday, February 13 and the holy month of Rajab will be counted from next Sunday, February 14.

Therefore, next 26th Rajab 1442 AH, 26th Falgun 1428 BS, next Thursday, 11th March, the holy night of Shab Mi’raj will be celebrated.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Information Md. Mizan-ul-Alam, Waqf Administrator Abdullah Sajjad, Director General of Islamic Foundation Faruk Ahmed (Additional Responsibilities), Additional Chief Information Officer Md. Shahenur Mia, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Television Md. Abdur Rahman, Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Understanding PSO Abu Mohammad, Principal of Madrasa-e-Alia Md. Alamgir Rahman, Senior Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Imam Hafez Maulana Muhammad Mizanur Rahman Rajwan and others were present.

The decision was taken after reviewing information received from all district administrations, Islamic Foundation head offices, divisional and district offices, Bangladesh Meteorological Department and space research and remote sensing institutes about the sighting of the moon in the holy month of Rajab in 1442 AH.
